Alan Edwards - management consultant

Alan Edwards is an experienced advisor and management consultant.

Starting as an in-house advisor at the Management Effectiveness Unit in Birmingham City Council he became a Partner at two of the Big 4 and an Executive at one of the world's leading technology companies. 

At PwC Alan was part of the team that sold and implemented the first SAP system to a UK Local Authority. He became a Partner in 2000. He was one of the leaders of the original delivery team for PwC's transformation partnership with DVLA. His team conceived and delivered the multi award winning car tax online system. 

Following the acquisition of PwC Consulting Alan rose to become the Civil Government Industry Leader for IBM's Business Consultancy Services. 

Alan left IBM to help KPMG recreate a public sector consulting team. He became Head of Financial Management consulting for Government and Healthcare. 

Alan has worked across the public sector as an advisor and consultant. He has led transformation programmes, systems implementations, financial  and process reviews as well as providing business strategy advice. 

As an Executive Director Alan was leading much of CIPFA's international advisory work. This international development work has focused on Public Financial Management (PFM) reform and PFM training programmes usually funded by international donors. In 2019 Alan led CIPFA's advisory work for the Home Secretary in relation to two reviews of PCC business cases to extend their role to embrace Fire and Rescue as well as Policing and Crime.
